The Chef’s Supper: Down the Hipster Rabbit Hole

For years and years and years, the iconic Five Crowns in Corona del Mar has been a go-to place for families to celebrate. To celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, you name it and the locals have celebrated it. But what many do not know is there is a whole different hipster rabbit hole your party can go down the next time you are ready to celebrate: The Chef’s Supper.

With the arrival of Executive Chef Greg Harrison, Five Crowns has introduced a dining experience that will rival most in Orange County. Imagine a culinary wonderland or foodie’s paradise with stops taking you from ocean, to garden, to farm, to mountains, to vineyard, to the sky. Impressive isn’t even a big enough word to explain the ride you are about to set sail on. The Jet-Set Family has been lucky enough on two separate occasions to experience the Chef’s Supper and not only were they both completely different each time, but they were both absolutely fabulous. And that’s where the excitement comes into play, the menu is constantly changing up to the moment it is served and the food presentations will leave you with a loss of words.

On both occasions I’ve left the dinner raving about foods that I have normally steer clear of. I tend to be a creature of habit, so it is common for me to order one of my ‘safeties’ when dining out. The Chef’s Supper not only allowed me to peek outside my comfort zone, but made me feel very adventurous and extremely sassy while branching out into the world of sea urchin, octopus and bone marrow. And I truly appreciate Chef Harrison for walking our parties to the edge of the culinary cliff just enough to look over, check out the beautiful view, but keep us safe on dry land.

The photos above are a compilation of my favorite plates from the two different dinners so you can see an array of variety; however I’ve included below the actual menu from the second dinner so you can see a sample of what you might expect during a complete supper.

The Chef’s Supper & pairing is $100 per person and available by reservation only on Friday nights for parties of 8 – 10 guests. Please note: While Five Crowns is a Jet-Set Family approved restaurant, The Chef’s Supper is not tailored towards J.I.T. (jet-setter in training).  An opportunity to dine at The Chef’s Table is worth every reason to call in a sitter…and a driver. Cheers!
